Enjoy Life – By turning off the stress

Being on the journey of permanent weight loss takes a lot of energy; conscious energy. And sometimes it feels like too much energy is required to keep going.

So what can we do when the stress gets to breaking point?

A great strategy is deliberately turning off the stress. This is the opposite of giving up, losing control, and indulging in favourite comfort food as a pseudo-solution for dealing with the stress.

Deliberately turning off the stress can be achieved through two main ways.

The first is through distraction; i.e. by deliberately focusing on something other than the stress and associated hunger for comfort. It can be achieved through listening to music, reading, going for a walk, meditating, praying, talking to a friend, or taking a bath etc.

The second way of turning off stress is to ride it out. It involves deliberately focusing on the sensations of being stressed and the experience of craving for NEEDNT food, examining it all thoroughly, in detail, until the sensations fade away – yes, fade away! It’s magic. This technique has been termed “urge surfing”, riding the wave of intense feeling of stress and wanting to eat, until it crashes on the beach and has gone.
