The “long and happy journey” we’re on for obesity recovery is a life-long journey, so let’s start enjoying it now, because the reality is our lives are relatively short whether we live 50, 70 or even 90 years.
One of the best ways of enjoying life is to focus on the positive things that are happening around us all the time.
Enjoying life can begin today, right now in fact.
We are always naturally delighted when the scales are showing weight-loss. It’s very easy to feel positive at those times!
The challenge is seeing the positive when our weight just stays the same for longer than we’d like, or, when our weight increases despite energy spent on creating and establishing healthier habits. The trick is to focus on the small things we are achieving while slowly transforming our lives.
A new recovery lifestyle doesn’t just happen overnight. It emerges gradually by choosing not to eat our particular problematic foods for one day, deliberately not taking seconds at a meal or increasing our walking a little. These are real victories to note and feel positive about.
There will be negative moments, we all know that! Recovering from obesity is like a child learning to walk. Falling over is a normal part of the process. But instead of ruminating about the falling we must simply pick ourselves up and have another go at eating less and increasing our activity; while constantly being on the lookout every day for positive things in our lives to focus on.
