Enjoy Life – Breathe in and breathe out

There is perhaps no simpler way of enjoying life right now than taking several deep breaths in and out. This can bring a great sense of appreciation at just being alive; not a bad starting point for really enjoying life.

A good way to get going is to say to yourself on the in-breath “breathe iiiiiiiiiin”, and then on the out-breath “breathe ouuuuuuuuuut”. Saying the words can be helpful to really focus on the breath moving in and then moving out. You don’t have close your eyes and take up a yoga position; any state of posture can work.

It’s quite amazing what thoughts and sensations can come into your mind as you’re focusing on breathing in and breathing out. You’ve then got the choice of following those thoughts and seeing where they take you, or alternatively, refocus on breathing in and out with your instruction – iiiiiiiiiin, ouuuuuuuuuut.

What’s this got to do with recovery from obesity? Undertaking regular sessions of breathing like this can set us up for enjoying life right now – overweight and all. But there is an added bonus. Practising deliberate breathing in a focussed manner like this will grow the strength of your conscious control over desires.
