Eat Well (process) – Chew Chew Chew

Developing good eating behaviour is vital to eating well and making progress on the long and happy weight-loss journey.

What is good eating behaviour?

One of the most important things we need to work on is to chew every single mouthful multiple times before swallowing and taking our next small mouthful of food. Eating can too easily feature having a range of chewed and unchewed food in our mouths at any given time. Check this out yourself at your next meal.

Instead of chewing each small mouthful thoroughly and then some more before swallowing many of us take large mouthfuls to start with, which they then only half-chew if at all before swallowing, but we also often put another large mouthful of food in before swallowing the first and end up gulping down large quantities of chewed and un-chewed food – ouch!

Taking small mouthfuls to start with and then chewing each one down to the point it is nearly the consistency of blended soup before swallowing enhances the pleasure of eating, while at the same time allows us to be more aware of what we’re eating – a double whammy benefit of eating well through simply taking the time to chew.
