Working towards lifelong recovery from obesity

Persist – Relapses are almost inevitable.

Relapses are some of the best learning opportunities. But relapses can also be very demoralising and make us feel the recovery journey is a “long, miserable and impossible journey”.

The trick is to pick ourselves up as quickly as we can after a lapse or full-blown relapse, dust ourselves off and get back on track. Perhaps by getting back on the scales, while being careful to avoid being harsh at ourselves.

Being kind to yourself means positive and comforting self-talk, not filling up on recreational drug food.

“Fall down seven times, get up eight”.
