Get Active – Never too busy to be more active

Achieving a more active lifestyle is not normally something that happens automatically. You can almost guarantee that people who try the dramatic radical approach by initiating an extensive new exercise regime won’t be doing it in even three or four months’ time, let alone three or four years’ time.

The key to successful lifestyle change is beginning to do small things that are sustainable for the rest of our lives and building up over time. One of these small things could be a simple five minute exercise routine, or going for a walk.

It is easy to feel far too busy to do specific exercise on top of everything else in our busy lives, particularly if we’ve been persuaded into thinking that unless we embark on hours of walking, running, swimming or biking it’s not worth doing. The trick is to think minutes rather than hours and begin by building in a small physical routine somewhere in the day that suits. We don’t have to become marathon runners to lose weight and live a healthier life.

A good question to ask yourself is this: can I have a spare five minutes a day to undertake a simple set of stretches or go for a short brisk walk? It’s hard to say “no” to this question.
